Failed a semester? Five things to do this week

A failed semester is recoverable, but the timeline matters. Here is a short, practical order of operations — starting with the conversation most students skip.

Failing a semester feels final. It usually is not — but the sooner you act, the more options you keep. Here is a short order of operations.

1. Get your actual transcript

Not what you think happened: the record. You need to know exactly which credits are missing and how many you still need to graduate.

2. Talk to your counselor

Your counselor knows your graduation requirements and can tell you precisely which credit to recover. This is the step students skip most often, and it is the one that saves the most time and money.

3. Confirm what your school will accept

Before paying anyone, find out what your school requires of an incoming credit. Accreditation is almost always the first filter.

4. Pick a course and start

Self-paced credit recovery means you can start the day you enroll rather than waiting for a term to begin. The earlier you start, the less pressure at graduation.

5. Keep the transcript moving

Earning the credit is not the last step — it has to reach your school record. Ask how the transcript is sent, and whether it costs anything. Ours are always free.
